HALLOWEEN MOVIES

When I was a little girl my mother would let me watch horror films. I remember every Friday night we watched U.S.A. During the same era I really loved  to watch "Tales From The Crypt." My mom would always call him my boyfriend. I guess it's because I found him so interesting because he was directly talking to the viewers. It used to feel like I was on the set. My family would laugh at me.  During Halloween every station is showing horror films. So it has become a tradition to pick out a horrible horror flick on movie night. Some people get really freaked out and get nightmares. If you are a person who enjoys scary movies. Then you also get a kick out of how scared a person can get so scared. The way they scream as if there in the movie. It is actually hard for me to pick just one. I do enjoy them all even the not so scary one's. Honestly, the one scary movie that I do enjoy and use to watch over and over again. I wouldn't even let my kids watch it at all. It actually happens to be a true story. The Exorcist has a lot of close-ups and real scary music. I don't have a clue who directed it and never gave it a second thought until today. I am definitely going to research the director and other movies they have filmed. I also noticed that since I have been in this course I watch movies different. Now I am looking for techniques, shots, angles, and movements.

Perspectives III

What is your idea for your three perspectives idea?
What shots do you plan on shooting?
Where do you plan on shooting?
What is your story idea for your scene?
Yesterday,  we  were  put  in  groups  to  come  up  with  the  outline  of  our  project.  I  would  like  to  say  that  we  came  up  with  a  good  plan.  On  the  other  hand  they  chose  another  idea  that  was  simple.  I  tried  to  involve  all  of  us  but  it  didn't  work  out.   I  don't  even  know  if  all  of  us  are  going  to  be  the  one  behind  the  camera.   Today,  my  plan  is  to  make  sure  that  I  focus  on  getting  my  paper  work  in  on  time.  They  have  decided  to  do  a  project  about  a  banana  and  box.  Sometime  I  wonder  if  my  class  mates  like  keeping  there  work  simple.  I  on  the  other  hand  don't   like  to  settle  for  less.  Put  your  heart  in  all  you  do !

Camera Prespectives II

Heres a great article that shows the differences between objective, subjective and POV shots.  Take a few minutes and read it then do a blog entry on this:
http://www.videoeditingsage.com/camera-angles-objective-and-subjective.html
Summarize what an objective, subjective and POV shot are.  What are the key differences between an objective, subjective and POV shot?  Why are they different?

The  difference  between  objective  and  subjective  is  fact  or  opinion.  In  the  film  industry  I  can  guess  that  it  has  to  do  with  the  view  of  the  camera.  I  research  a  couple  definitions  that  breaks  it  down  for  me.

Flashback - A segment of film that breaks normal chronological order by shifting directly to time past. Flashback may be subjective (showing the thoughts and memory of a character) or objective (returning to earlier events to show their relationship to the present).

Flash Forward - A segment of film that breaks normal chronological order by shifting directly to a future time. Flash forward, like flashback, may be subjective (showing precognition or fears of what might happen) or objective (suggesting what will eventually happen and thus setting up relationships for an audience to perceive).

Objective Camera - The attempt to suggest that the camera acts only as a passive recorder of what happens in front of it. The use of objective camera relies on de-emphasis of technique, involving minimal camera movement and editing.

Perspective - The way objects appear to the eye in terms of their relative positions and distances.

Subjective Camera - Shots simulating what a character actually sees; audience, character, and camera all "see" the same thing. Much subjective camera involves distortion, indicating abnormal mental states. Shots suggesting how a viewer should respond are also called "subjective" (for example, a high-angle shot used to make a boy look small and helpless).

14 SHOTS DUE DATES

Were you able to get your project in on time?
 If not, what went wrong?
Be specific.  Analyze what went wrong.
How can you prevent this from happening in the future?
It is critical you structure your time wisely and make due dates.

This  project  was  a  learning  experience.  There  was  no  pitch  to  this  story.  Just  a  vision  that  needed  more  detail.  I  would  have  liked  to  help  my  team  members  more.  I  know  that  the  planning  is  where  our  group  messed  up  in.  The  project  made  it  in  on  time.  Honestly,  I  know  that  we  are  capable  of  giving  this  class  all  we got.  I  have  been  learning  so  much  that  it  truly will  make  be  a  leader.  I  am  not  a  follower.  I  am  a  adult  and  do  have  more  to  offer  my class  mates. The  next  project  I  do  is  going  to  be  more  organized.  I  will  definitely  make  sure  the  team  contract  is  utilized  and  a  plan is  complete.  There  will  not  be  any  filming  until  the  development  part  is  complete.  I  agree  with  structuring  time  wisely  and  following  through  with  due  dates  is  critical  in  this  field.  I  can't  wait  to  view  the  other  projects.

AMERICAN MOVIE

:
Take time this weekend and write a short paragraph response to these questions in your blog about the film viewing.  You can refer to your notes and the discussion in class that we had.

1.  What is the overall plot of the movie?

2.  What was the subject Mark’s Journey?

3.  What were some of his challenges?

4.  What are some creative techniques that you noticed the filmmakers used?

5.  What role did sound play in the film?

6.  What were some mistakes that the subject Mark made?

7.  What were some of Marks strengths?  Weaknesses?

8.  How do/could you relate to what Mark was going through during the film?

A  documentary  of  a  independent  film maker on a mission to live a "American Dream".  Mark  was  determined  to  do  something  with  self.  Unlike  all  the  other  people  that  work  in  fields  unhappiness. He  knew  that  he  would  work  just  as  hard.  Doing  what  he  wanted,  his  way! In  the  three  years  it  took  to  complete  this  film.   In  the  making  of  "Coven".  Marks  journey  faces a  financial  dilemma. He  planned  his  production  poorly  and  ran  into  financial set backs. Mark  used  friends  and  neighbors  to  complete  this  low  budget  horror  film.  Along  with  his  personal  conflicts  of  his  relationship.  He  indulged  in  some  alcohol  and  gambling  habits.  Which  set  back  the  production  as well.  Which  was  a good example  of  what  mixing  business   and pleasure  does. Through out  the  documentary  he  proves  himself  to  be  a  inspiring  example. He  made  it  obvious  that  hard work  pays off.  Mark  is  a  very  visionary, dedicated  and  forceful director.  At  the  same  time  chaotic,  obstructive,  and  Aggressive.   I  can  relate  to  his  ability  to  push  pass  the  roadblocks  to  be  successful. The  way  he  might  of  came  off  cold  almost  like  he  didn't  care  about  others.  He  really  has  heart  and  a  lot  like  myself.

THE MAGIC OF MOVIES

I  am  one  of  those  people  in  the  audience  that  can  really  escape  into the  main  character's  role.  It  really  gives  me  a  chance  to  escape  my  chaotic life.  Letting  the  movie  take  me  over. The  magical  part  about  movies.  The  power  a  good  flick  has  over  the audience.  The  ways  films  can  influence  individuals  life.  It  is  almost  if  something  jumps  out  and  grabs  you.  The  Magic  of  capturing   the  moments  you  could  never  live.  The  ability  to  make  you  feel  like  you  are  a  dog with  a  tail  wagging  away  awaiting  your  master's  hand.  After  going  on  the  emotional  roller-coaster  that  a  movie  takes  you  on  is  unreal.  Does  it  go  through  the  audiences  mind, how  the  movie  was  filmed?  What  goes  on  to  produce  a  film  is  where  the  true  magic  lies.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE? WHY

My  all  time  favorite  film! I  could  not  take  my  eyes  off  the screen.  I  think  I  was  more  excited  then my  kids.  I  can  watch  this  movie  over  and  over.  It  was  so  emotional  for  me  because  I  am  part American  Indian.  It  was  exciting  and  entertaining  to  the  end.  Unlike  anything  I  have  ever  seen.   My  emotions  got  the  best  of  me  and  I  did  cry.

Learning is a process!

Everyday  I  am  learning  a  new  skill  in  the  production  process.  I  really  enjoy  researching  in  detail.  I  am  behind  right  now  and  feeling  a  little  discouraged.  Honestly  I  just  wish  that  I  can  get  to  where  I  need  to  be.  I  just  am  really  blessed  to  be  able  to  take  this  class. I  wish  I  would  have  never  got  sick  because  once  you  miss  it's  hard  to catch up.  The  feeling  of  failing  is  just  like  rejection.  Hard  to  deal  with  and  accept.  I  am  determined  to  push  pass  this  little  bump  in  the  road.  It  would  be  done  with  already if  I  wasn't  so  hard  on  my  work.  There  is  a  voice  inside  me that  is  screaming, "You  can do  so  much  better!" I  really  just  need  to  keep  my  work  simple.  My  anxiety  is  getting  the  best  of  me.  My  kids  are  really  taking  up  all  my  time.  The  house  has  to be  cleaned.  I'm  torn  in  between  my  dream  and  my  reality.  A  big  part  of  me  want's  to  crawl  in  a  dark  corner.  I'm  going  to  try  and  make  it  through  the  rest  of  the  week!

PREMIERE PRO/14 SHOTS PRODUCTION

How comfortable are you with using Premiere Pro?
What do you feel that you need to work on more?
What are some ways that you could seek out more
on how to use Premiere beyond the teacher?

What is your plan for shooting your project?
How do you plan on finishing it by the end of class on Thursday?

WYesterday,  I  was  introduced  to  Premiere  Pro  for  the  first  time.  I  really  enjoyed  the  tutorial  on  some  of  the  basic  functions.  I  got  the  chance  to  learn  how  to  import  footage  into  my  project  bin.  I  also  made  sure  that  every  take  had  it's  own  name.  I  would  like  to  get  the  shorthand  commands  down  so  that  editing  footage  will  be  smoother.  I  have  already  thought  this  out  and  will  be  checking  a  book  out  from  the  public  library.  If  not  I  will  be  looking  for  a  book  on  the  Internet  so  that  I  am  able  to  know  all  the  functions  of  Premiere  Pro.  Other  then  that  I  will  be  researching  tutorials  on  you  tube.  I  want  to  be  able  to  process  this  program  and  know  all  I  am  capable  of  learning.

14 Shots Production

Did you shoot your 14 shots film this weekend?  Where did you shoot it?  How did it go?  What were some of the challenges that you faced?  Did everything work as planned?  If not, what didn't?  If you didn't shoot this weekend, what is your plan?

What experience with video editing do you have?  What software have you used?  What aspect of it are you most interested in learning?  Why?

One  of  my  team  members  did  shoot  this  weekend.  We  have  to  re-write  our outline  because  characters  switched.  So  right  now  we  have  discussed  on  what  we  have  to  get  done.  I  feel  more  confident  on  being  able  to  be  apart  of  my  groups  project.  We  will  be  editing  today  and  finishing  up  our  paper  work.

SHOOTING OFF CAMPUS?

Since most of you are shooting off campus, where do you plan on shooting?  What is your plan to pull the film off?  What are you locations?  Why did you choose them?  If not off campus, what is your plan?

I  hope  that  my  group  will  actually  communicate  on  this  project  today.  I  was  instructed  to  just  be  of  assistance  and  just  wait   for  instructions.  At  this  point  I  feel  pretty  insecure  on  my  groups  effort  to  work  as  a  team.  I  really  enjoy  this  class  and  look  forward  to  having  a  chance  to  work  with  all  my  class  mates.  They  all  seem  like  fun  to  work  with.   The  location  of  the  film  is  still  up  in  the  air.

TRAILERS & ANGLES 127 HOURS

I  really  enjoyed  the  127  hours  trailer  it  looks  like  a  very  good  story.  The  fact  of  the  film  is  based  on  a  true  story.

Watch the following trailer for 127 hours and list the shots that you notice.  Write about how you think this communicated the theme of the film.  What do you think the director was trying to say about the film in the trailer?

Extreme Long (Wide) Shot

Crane Shot

Full shot

Medium  Close-Up

WHAT IS YOUR 14 SHOTS PITCH

What is your 14 Shots film pitch?  What is the story arc?  Who are the characters?  How could you improve it?  What are some of the flaws?

This  weekend  I  contacted  one  of  my  partners  but  did  not  communicate  with  the  other.

There  has  been  some  issues  with  the  last  story  that  they  came  up  with.  Basically,  it  got  denied  because  it  was  to  difficult  to  shoot  in  14  shots.  I  am  trying  not  to  get  frustrated  with  the  group  I  was  assigned  to  because  we  are  going  to have  to  stay  positive  in  getting  this  project  down.

I  would  like  to  keep  it  simple  and  easy.  I  ran  my  idea  by  the  other  member  of  my  group  and  she  didn't  like  it.  At  this  point  I  am  going  to  attempt  to  do  my  own  on  the  side.  Basically,  it  is  hard  when  others  don't  want  to  work  as  a  team.

SVCTE Film/Video Production: BLOG QUESTION: THE POWER OF TEAMWORK

SVCTE Film/Video Production: BLOG QUESTION: THE POWER OF TEAMWORK: HOW DOES TEAMWORK EFFECT FILMMAKING? WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT?

There  are  many  positions  to  make  a  film.  The  more  money  you  put  into  teamwork  the  better  the  film.  It  is  a  major  requirement   to  have  make-up  artist, wardrobe assistants,  set  builders,  sound  technicians,  light  technicians,  and  schedulers.  This  is  important  to  accomplish  the  making  of  the  director.  Could  you  imagine  what  would  a  director  do  if  he  didn't  have a team  behind  him?  I  think  that  it  has  a  big  effect  on  the  way  the  picture  is  completed.

GEAR: INTRO TO THE SONY EX3/EX1 CAMCORDER SYSTEMS

In this unit we begin by introducing you to the Sony EX3/EX1 camcorders.  These are fantastic 1080P high definition 1/2 CMOS camcorders that shoot beautiful video.

You are required to read and know the manuals

I  liked  the  video  about  how  to  use  the  camera.  There  are  allot  of  functions  to  remember  but  I  do  feel  very  confident  in  knowing  how  it  functions.  I  think  that  it  is  always  good  to  read all  electronic  manuels  before  using  any  kind  of  electronic  gadget.

BLOG QUESTION: SHOTS & ANGLES

What  were  some of  the  things  that  you
learned  in  the shots  and  angles  lecture  yesterday?
How  do  you  plan  to  incorporate  these  into  future  projects?
What  cool  ideas  are  you thinking  about  trying?

Yesterday we had a visual lecture on the shots and angles used in film making.  It is  great  to  know  exactly  how  to  explain  the  visual  in  mind.  I  am  a  little  inpatient  on  being  able  to  use  the  shots and angels  that  we were  introduced  to.  Especially  in  writing  a  story  outline.  Showing  the  emotion  of  the  person  your  filming  so  the  audience  can  feel  it.  Just  by  the  person's  eye's  had  to  be  the  most  exciting  part  of  the  lecture.

"Self Talk"

Once in a while it is good to bring forth a little, "Self Talk". To get the ball rolling.  Just to motivate yourself to reach one's goals.

Just switched to pm class. I am unsure of what exactly to focus on at the moment. I just have a great number of assignments to get done. This is my first attempt to give this class all I can. I got to keep it simple by creating a list of all I do to catch up. Staying positive will get me through this overwhelming state of mind. Just breath and stay focused. It is to late to worry about anything being late. Understand it needs to get accomplished. Get it done!

Start Entirely Over........

VOCAB: PRODUCTION

Here is the production vocabulary that you are required to know.  Remember, you will be tested on this.

Vocabulary is defiantly a strength of mine.  I am confident in being able to connect a definition with the correct word.  I do have a weakness in being able to remember the spelling at times. I wonder exactly when this test will take place.  Study! Study! Study!
